The Utah Retail Merchants Association was formed in 1955 to join Utah retailers together for strength and representation before the various government bodies and their regulatory agencies. That purpose has never changed! The Association’s work with national, state and local government entities has become more and more critical for survival of the industry.
The 2024 general session of the Utah Legislature ended at midnight on Friday, March 1, 2024. Any bill that did not pass, died and must be reintroduced next year if the sponsor wishes to continue pursuing the issue. Bills that passed the legislature, and were not vetoed by the Governor, either became law on their effective date or on May 1, 2024.
The Government Relations Committee meets weekly during the legislative session. This committee is charged with reviewing legislation as it is introduced and providing guidance to the association’s lobbying staff. Any member may request that the Government Relations Committee consider an issue in its weekly meeting and take a formal position by contacting Dave Davis, President. Dave Davis can be contacted at (801) 262-5001 or ddavis@utahretail.com.
Shortly after the conclusion of the session all UFIA members received a copy of the association’s Government Relations Tracking Sheet and Legislative Wrap Up Summary documents. If for some reason you did not receive these documents additional copies can be obtained by emailing Dave Davis at ddavis@utahretail.com.
If you have questions about any legislative issues or need additional information, please don’t hesitate to send an email to Dave Davis at davis@utahretail.com, or call the Association office at (801) 262-5001.
